I have a 66 fastback. I am about to get new tires and rims to replace the ones I borrowed off ofa Lincon town car. I am thinkg about 16 inch rims. Would 15 or 16 be better? Which has more tire choices? I also might get some new internals for the rear axle. I had a 9 inch in our pasture so thats what i swapped in it. I am thinking about 31 spline axles with a tru-track. Also, whats the widest tire i can fit? i can roll the fender or do minor mods to fit them. I don't want anyting to tall. I am looking at the torq-thrust wheels. 8 in back and 7 in front. What backspacing would work? As far as gears, what is the lowest crusing rpm's i should run, say at 70. I have a .62 overdrive tranny and would get some gears for decent milage after i figure the tire size. If anyone has a picture of a similar set up let me know. thanks for your time and opinions are welcome on anything.

 

Here is a picture of my car with 17x8 TTII's front and back. The tires are 245/40. I had to roll all 4 fenders to make these work with a 4.5" offset. If I had it to do again I would by 17x8's with 4.75" backset abd use 235/40 tires. I don't think a person would have any trouble finding tires for any size rims. I would say it is what you like best. I like lower profile tires on big rims, but I also can see where bigger tires on smaller rims look more original.
