Default Tuned her up today!!

Talk about a good running motor now..I took it to the San Diego Naval base Auto Hobby Shop and changed my front shocks and then timed and tuned the motor.. Timing is at 12* BTDC, dwell at 27, pulling about 16 on the vaccume guage at 750rpm in gear... I tuned the carb with the vaccum guage and it worked perfectly.. I also found that I had a missing nipple and was loosing vaccum on the rear of my intake.. So I plugged that.. I pulled into the place ratteling and running good, but rough as hell at Idle, and when I pulled out it was like having a new car.. My carb was just all out of whack.. That, plus new suspension, plus tightening the steering adjustment screw so I didnt have so much play in the wheelreally brought this car back to life.. I couldntbelieve how well it drove after I left..

very very nice :-)
if you have a very rough idle without a lopey cam then that's a sign of lean idle mixture.
Remember the screw position as they are and turn out the idle screw(s) about 1/4 turn and see how it goes

How do you tighten the steering adjustment screw? I have the same problem.

On your steering box, there is a stud with a nut on it. Loosen up the nut and then you can tighten the stun with a screwdriver. The way some people told me to do it was to turn the wheels all the way to the left (driver side), then loosen the nut. Screw in the stud until you feel it start to rub/have resistence, then back it up just a bit so its not rubbing. Then tighten the nut again and most of the play should be gone!

On and don't be suprised if the nut is a b!itch to loosen, mine need a breaker bar and like a half out of hitting hahahaha

I did exactly like 4reboy said, mine was easy to adjust though and now it drives great! My carb,, I just attached the vacume guage and started with the screws about 2 turns out, then took the right side screw out until it started to stumble brought it back in to the highest vac reading and then turned the other out to the same and then tweaked it back and forth between the adjustment screws until it was perfect! Love it.. However I do need to hook up my choke, which I learned yesterday was not hooked up at all..

it only depends on how bad it was before.
i'm constantly folling around mine. but it's sometimes surprising how little adjustments have a huge impact on the way the car drives or behaves. For example the steering box adjustment. I had the same aha effect with my manual gearbox once. the shiftstick felt like a muddler. i blamed the box for over a year until i pulled the rubber and tightened the screws .... much better now ... i guess some people thinks i'm plain stu[pid for not figuring this before. and yes .. they are right ;-)
