Bad Shutter off the line..help?
I am new to this but was hoping a trans guy might be willing to help. I have a 289 with a 3spd manual. From a stop there is a bad shutter shaking the car when. It is happening in all three gears, but is the worst from a dead stop in 1st. I am wondering what my first attempt to coorect this should be. I am think the clutch, or the shift linkages need adjustment. I am hoping the linkages, but am not sure of the correct adjustment or position. Anyone have any tips or know any web sites which give detail on this? I appreciate the help!!
Sounds like clutch chatter. Turning my flywheel and new clutch, pressure plate and throughout bearing and pilot bearing were all bad at that point so I replaced them while I was @ it.
Oil leaking down the back into the bell-housing toasted my components. Another cause could be the clutch linkage not working smoothly, I had that issue once over header and zbar contact. Chatter is clutch slipping and gripping.

you could try readjusting the Z bar linkage. needs to be adjusted right to work well. i have the same problems right now. Cmanf, you say yours was fried because oil got into the bell housing..where was the oil comming from? i ask becasue i have a few leaks on my engine, and dont want to have a new clutch get gummed up

Now here is the kicker my bell housing was warped due to the missing bolt or 2 on the same side. So oil came out of the cracked valve cover followed the head to the back of block.
From there down between the engine plate and the bell housing. i was surprised to see that when I pulled the trans I had a pool of oil in the bottom of the bell housing. New valve covers ALL the bolts put in the bell housing no more gaps. In defense I was a bit unconcerned with those details 20 years ago. lol
The zbar gave me problems for ever finally bent the damn thing to get it clear the header seemed to work fine after that.
Since then everything has changed to hydro clutch and tko now.
hmm, i know i have one valve cover leaking, from waht your had happen, i think ill get those fixed...i think I might have a leak at the back of the intake aswell..damn. thanks though
