Car won't start
I have a 69 GT with a 302 that won't start. I'm getting power to the ignition coil terminals but not to the primary cable to the distributor cap. I haven't yet really starting digging in to it but I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem.
if you are not getting power out of the coil than it is either the coil or the distributor/module if you have EI. The distributor acts as a trigger to complete the circuit and then brake the circuit on the coil this causes the high voltage spark to be created. I would start with the distributor by disconnecting the negative cable from the coil and putting the leads from a meter on said negative cable and ground checking of continuity. Then turn the car over. Continuity should switch back and forth from on to off. If it stays off or on with out switching you have problems in the distributor or ignition module if it is electric ignition. If that is the case let me know and I will give you further info on troubleshooting the distributor. If the distributor checks out and you are getting the switching than the coil is bad and you need to replace it.
The terminals are the primary side of the coil. are you saying you have no spark out of the secondary side? If so the advice provided by DAZE is appropriate as well. If the points don't open and close the coil cannot make the magnetic field it requires to fir into the secondary.
