Default Head Install went Great, 1st try w/ pics

Saturday night I replaced old cerca 1978 302 4v heads with 1965 54cc 289 heads. The 54cc will give me the much needed comp ratio i need and the SS 1.94/1.60 valves will heep. The shop alsoadded comp cams duel springs, guide plates and screw-in studs. I paid $375 for the service to the 65heads.

My motor is a 67 289 with XE268 cam, gear drive, Demon 525, performer intake, MSD timing control, custom distibutor w/out vac advance (Vanboe Racing)
Hooker Full Comp headers, Cut-Outs to 40 series Flowmaster. 2.5 pipingall the way back.

Note: the MSD timing control is the best purchase i've made. The ability to adjust timing in the car by 15 deg.helps in timing/tuning/weather and startup.

did they install hard ex seats?

if not you need to use lead additive every couple tanks of gas.

oh yeah, you need some roller rockers now that you have the screw in studs and guideplates (did you get hard pushrods? the guideplates will chew up the stockers)

Did you realise you dont need the guide plates in the early 289 heads. The pushrod holes have flats either side to act as guides. I guess it cant hurt having them on though.

thx guys... i will purchase hard push rods. Does anyone know the spec? I also installed The wilwood 4 piston kit about a month ago. For 679, it was the best bang for the buck.

FYI.... The guide plates ARE NEEDED on 65 heads with rolller Tip Rockers!!! (Not Roller Rockers)

Can some recommend some Guide plates for a 289 with screw_in studs and Roller Tip Rockers?
