Default Start up problem

69 (302) and it was starting/running fine for a few months. Thena couple weeks ago Iturned the key and heard nothing. I replaced the solenoid and could hear clicking when turning the key. I replaced the starter and heard nothing when turning the key. I used the solenoid from another car and the engine started right up! Thought I had bought a busted part so I put the original solenoid back on and the car started and ran. About 8 hours later (clock on passenger side stopped) it went back to hearing nothing when I turn the key.

What steps should I take to find the problem?

Have you made sure every connection from the battery is clean and tight? Check the battery ground also. If you bypass the solenoid will it crank?

You may have a bad + or - battery cable or loose ground. As Gun Jam says, look, for obvious looseness and corrosion first, then replace both these cables. Also, turn the headlights on and observe what happens to the head lights when the engine is cranked?

I second the clean battery terminals. I had a few times where my car wouldnt start cuz they were just a little grimy. even a quick pass with sand paper helps
