IDK,,, I think that a 351 with a more or less stock rebuild, with some good slugs, will take 500 HP or sowithout issue. This is what I have heard and read anyway...

I think the stock bottom endis pretty stout in spite of the cast iron crankshaft. If it were me, I think I might spend $200.00 on a block girdle, just for insurance, if I were going to tickle 500 HP or add more than just a little nitrous.

A girdle will require an aftermarket pan also....I know....

Machining costs will vary depending on what you want and/or need to have done. Remember for a rebuild, the block, crankshaft, and heads will more than likelyneed to be serviced by a machine shop. Count on at least $400.00 for machine shop work.

that sounds fair. i am going to get some 1970 d00e heads from perogie most likely ( have some 86 smog heads now[:'(])
i wasnt planning on putting any more than a 200 shot on it. just hoping for around 350hp to the wheels if possible on a .030 rebuild, pistons, cam, lightly ported heads (if i have enough money) and intake
is there anything else that i will need to run nitrous?

I am assuming you know that you should run forged pistons if you are looking to give it a 200 shot.... but I will say it anyway...

I can't think of anything else you will need in the engine department, but some others here might want to ring in on this, I don't have any reallife personal experience with nitrous at all.

Most places will charge 50.00 to 75.00 bucks per cylinder so just to have it bored your looking at 400.00 at least. Does the deck need to be planned? That would beanother 35.00 to 50.00 per side. Check all the threads and make sure they are good. We had to have every thread for the dome redone on an AMC 360 we just did. These run about 5.00 bucks each. Yeah.. I've just been through all the machine shop bit. Even had the heads planned down where the rocker studs screw down into about 1/8".

Drool... a 351w.. and I keep turning them away! [:@]
A 351w will do 300 to 350 pretty easy without adding a shot at all. As JMD said it'll do 500+ if you spend a bit of cash on it.. again, without nos.

As for nos I don't know anything about it at all so offer anything there at all.

Damn!! machine shop prices here are a lot less! Regional differences in price canbe substantial though...

For that same $400.00 (ormaybe $500.00)here, I would expect to have the block bored, honed, (with torque plates, pistons fitted), line honed, decked, and new cam bearings....

Oh yea, I got a promotional e-mail from Jegs this morning, Ford block girdles are on sale starting at about $170.00.. pretty good deal IMO...

My only experience with nitrous is from a friend, so take that into consideration. But a 200 shot is a pretty healthy dose. Stick with a 50-100 shot.

Yeah go figure. [:@] Oh well.. His car needed all that. The PO of ours said the engine was rebuilt about 18 months ago by a local shop. Said they took it down to the block but other than that has not idea what they did to it. [:@] again! I mean come on! Said he gave them a new Edelbrock Performer dome, carb and cam to install but thats all he knew. Needless to say I'll be tearing it down to as *I* want to know whats in and been done inside the block.

To the OP.. If your just looking for 350 HP personally I wouldn't even bother with the nos. A 351w will give you that easy. Why play with something that could potentially damage the block when you don't need it. Before going with nos I'd want the block to be stress checked myself.
