Default Lead Substitute for Gas ???

My 68 has the original engine in it. Is the use of alead additive to the gasnecessary? Good idea? Bad idea? Won't make any difference?

What has it been using? I would suggest just swapping the valves for hardened. It will pay off in the long run.

If you can find some, I would use it. Do you have some in mind? If so, what brand and where is it available?

Oh, saviour, the seats have to be replaced. I say, why spend several hundred if you can just use an additive.

True, I just don't know how much additive you have to add. If it's like a bottle per fill up, it can add up quick. All in all, I'd do whatever is cheapest.

Hey AxMan, I'm gonna be driving through Houston this weekend. It's been way too long since I've been down there...

I was told to always run lead or it would wreck the valves etc, so I always have. I am getting my engine rebuilt now and will be using hardened seats etc so will not be necessary.

According to this, you can't buy lead additive as of Feb 1996:
http://www.epa.gov/EPA-AIR/1996/Febr...2/pr-1326.html

Do you have access to it?

I was told by a tow truck driver who had a few old cars and a 64.5 that it isnt needed. not really sure tho.
