Default Heater Hoses question

I am in the process of replacing heater hoses and core....can I temporarly run a short hose from the water pump to the Intake (making a loop without going through the old heater core) and still run the car safely?
Iam aware I will have no heat but I want to start to rip out the old and run the car...not ready to replace the core imediately.
Thanks Scott

I have a 66 289 .

So many people have done that, they gave it a name: "The Mustang Loop".

So I guess it is safe to run the mustang loop?

I've done it before, on a '76 Chevy Truck, not a Mustang. Can't imagine that there would be a problem.

There's no problem in doing that, it's been done forever. You should probably go ahead and remove the old heater hoses though so they aren't laying against the engine with no coolant in them. The only drawback is it looks terrible in the short term until you get your core and new hoses installed.

I have been doing this for awhile. It works fine.

Me too!! Mine has been like that since I bought the car and realized that all of my coolant was ending up on the floorboard..
