Default Line Locks

Apparently they lock your front brakes, and release your rear brakes so that burn outs are easier. Anybody have one on their car? INFO HERE Personally, I think it is a waste of good money, but to each their own.

Used them many years ago when I raced every weekend. Pretty much standard equipment in a serious drag car but not much use on the street.

Is that what they use on funny cars and long nosed dragsters to get the back tires hot and sticky?

A line lock is more of a tool to keep you from rolling past the staging lights. Funny cars and top fuel dragsters don't have front brakes so a line lock would not help during burn out's.

Ok, makes sense. So just raw bwhp gives them them the burn-out huh? I have often wonderd how they can "burn out' without going too far down the track.

Next time you watch a drag race, watch what they do to the carb. They will actually de-tune the carb or ignition system to limit the RPM/HP to the rear wheels during a burn-out. This is so they don't blow an engine. [sm=gears.gif]

I'd hate to be driving a funny car when the engine blew. That thing is right there in your face.

They have a water box in the asphault right before the staging area. They pull through the water and then once they clear the water they light the tires up.

Why the water?

They use water now because bleach was outlawed.

It is used to break free the sticky tires so the tires can do the burn-out and not grab and fly down the track. The bleach actually did a better job of heating up the tires and making them sticky, but was toxic.
