what should i do first?
i am trying to start a build budget for a 66 that i may be buying (have to convince dad w/ the build budget). It is a good running 66 with new brakes a great running engine and tranny and almost no rust. I know how to do the body work and interior work, but i don't know what else i need to replace to make it better to be daily driver ready (10 or so miles a day). I know i am giong to do a power break conversion, but what else should i expect to do? All electrical works and suspension is good. the car has 70k miles on it and a rebuilt engine (going to replace w/ a 302 anyway). anyone have suggestions of waht to add to the list?
I would say one of the most important parts of the car to look at ar ethe brakes. Even though the guy selling the car might say they're new, make sure. You don't want to be driving around and have them fail.
Second I would check the tires and suspension. You don't want a tie rod to break or anything. Check allignment and make sure you can get all the tires pointed in the same direction.
Once you're sure it will start, stop and roll then you can start having fun with mods and stuff to make it go faster and look better.
Another area that should probably be looked at is the electrical system. Make sure your wires are ok. You don't want any frayed wires arcing under hte hood. With an older car and lots of oil and junk cakes up on the block you don't need any fires.
Old cars are fun!

What engine is currently in it? Even a manual disk conversion would be a good upgrade. Maybe a thicker sway bar, some good quality shocks and tires. Just keep her tuned up and maintnence up to date and you probably wont have many major problems.
yah, definately going to look at all the wires and take it to a shop to check for wires, brakes, and suspension. my dad is thinking that its too old, but i want an old car to work on and fix up. i'm hoping to spend around 3k this summer (not counting engine) to get it to good running status. are there any chain auto shops that will do a check up like i was talking about for older cars?
