Default smoke questions

I have a question as to why I have lite steam or lite white smoke coming from my PCV value area and on the other side of the value cover were my oil cap ( vented crome one only) has the same problem. Some days it seem worst then others. Plus I've also noticed that on my driveway I black stuff coming out of dual exhaust, little black spots on the cement, but alot. I can't tell if this is oil or carbon from the mufflers. I pulled a spark plug from each side an they have no oil on them. Should I have this professional checked?
Thanks
Engine/trans (302/auto)is new ( 500 miles or so) new carb, intake and headers.

i have those black spots as well. for the moment i'm convinced that this is carbon inside the exhaust mixed with condensating water

The guy who rebuilt my engine and transmission just told me that my smoky issuesare probably being caused by the transmission modulator, he said it sounds like a vacuum line or something.
The modulator line is currently running up into my intake, I'm not sure if it that or not, I will so find out. I'm giving him my car next week to look it over.

The guy is blowing smoke. It is normal for PCV to do that. That is what it there for. Black spots on the driveway? Again, totally normal. Your car is fine don't spend any more money. That guy is full of it.

One other think I need to look at is, there could water in my oil, not sure how that could have happened with a new engine.
But I did have problems with my thermostats, a new one would not work and the it blew my hose, I believe I drove the car around 50 miles before it blew so no water was getting in I guess, and other was I could not stop my old thermo housing from leaking so I just replaced it with a new one.
I did just replace my intake with a new one, and some of water could have gotten in the oil. I will drain the oil and see if it has water in it.

Pull the dipstick, if it is milky in apperance there is water present. Also, new engines take a little while for the rings to fully seat which can make a little more whisps of smoke around the pcv hole the valve sits in.

aye. you should see on the dipstick. looks a bit like melted chocolate
check the water as well. if the water is like that, then you've got oil in there

steam or smoke out the pcv usually indicates blow-by which is not good for any engine.

I would check the oil and water as the guys suggested but if that's not the answer I would be tempted to get a second opinion from another mechanic.

the black oily crud in the exhaust is usually condensation in the pipes washing crud of the walls as your engine warms up. If it is still doing this after say 5 -10 miles of driving I would be concerned. Otherwise its normal.

Mine blows that crud all over wifes only storage cupboard in my shed...the nice antique one she painted white. Drives her nuts. Meh...told her not to put it there and anyhow its my damn shed[8D]

Blow by (smoke from the breathers/pcv) is normal for new motors still seating rings. It is also common on old engines with worn rings. In the second case, it ususally gets worse. If your motor is a fresh rebuild, just keep an eye on it. If it is still doing it after a 1000 miles or so, then have the compression checked.

As for black on the drive way, don't worry about that unless you engine is warm when it is doing it. Ususally if it is oil, you will see it collect on the rear of the car. Soot will not do that. My worn out 351 would slick down the rear of the car and the dust from my road collect on it so thick you can not see the tail lights. That is blow by to worry about.
