Are you talking about the dash pad, or the dash itself? If you are talking about the pad, no you don't need to take the windshield out to replace the pad. If you are talking about the dash itself, it is welded into place. Why would you even want to take the dash out in the first place if that is what you are talking about?

When I replaced my heater core, I was able to unbolt the passenger side to move it enough to complete the job. It was not fun...

Are you saying the dash on a 69 is bolted on, and not welded on? Interesting. We still need to find out if the dash itself needs to be taken off, or if the dash pad needs replacing.

hi ya glen, he means dash pad. i'm removing repo pad, installing oem pad right now. No windshield removal needed. But you might want to replace all bulbs in the instrument panel sockets while you have dash pad off. bulbs are cheap but easier to replace while dash pad is off.

The English language is a fickle thing, isn't it? Although I realized it was a dash pad replacement question, it was not stated that way, so I was just trying to get a clarification about the question.

That's funny, it was a beautiful sunny day in Mi., so I also tore the repo dash And instrument panel out of my 70. I took the instrument panel apart and replaced all the blue bulb lenses and cleaned everything. reinstalled the instrument panel and the new oem dash pad. Boy does it look good. The instrument panel lights are now nice and bright. Same project on same day.
