If you want a 289, scroll down to Worm696's thread titled "Question about Price." Maybe you guys can hook up. Otherwise, you might as well get grease under your fingernails and do an overhaul yourself. I tell ya' it is a real good feeling to overhaul an engine, and it actually runs after you are through. You also have so much more stock in your car, because you did it yourself. And, you can add all those power enhancing goodies while you are at it. Any questions about doing it? Ask away. Oh, and excuse my bad manners. Welcome to the site, and if you have pictures of your new found friend, please post some pictures. If you don't know how, ask us.

You are in the exact place to ask questions about your 66 Mustang. I would ask that you ask yourself how much time do you spend in front of the TV? Rebuilding a vintage Mustang is not only mentally challenging, but it is also recreational. It is hard work both mentally and physically. Whether you are a Mopar guy or not is not the issue here. You own a Classic Ford Mustang. If you want to learn how to maintain it, come here often.

well I am not ready to get rid of the car well yet and besides I pay alot for it. It was suppose to a a nice car solid gt 350 clone and it is a nice body good inside but some rust on the frame not real but bad but enough and now a bad motor. I don't know how much these go for but I would bet i am under it. I will lwt you know if I get to the point of giving up.

If it has a solid body, engines and such are not too expensive to replace,

I am or was a Mopar guy too. My father was a founding member of the Ramchargers drag team. When I was young I would play around the garage while my father ,Jim Thornton, Dale Reeker...etc worked on their 49 Plymouth with the 8-2bl 392 Hemi in it. That was long ago.
I have had GM cars also and never really cared to own a Ford. I bought a 69 F100 back in 1978 and have hot rodded it up a little over the years. I was looking for a 69 Dodge Dart to install a 440 in as a play toy when I came across a good deal( I thought ) on a 67 mustang. It already had a 351W in it and with the stroker kits out there I figured it would be a great starting point for a cruiser/hotrod. The smallblock Fords really grow on you after awhile. The 302 that is in my truck was built 15 years ago and it still idles at 30psi and instantly revs over 6,000 as fast as you can press the throttle.
Good luck with your project. I hope it takes afew years less than mine is going to.
