what i did today
just some pics to show my progress. Now if my wife could only pick a frickin color so i can put covers back on

how many listing wires should the rear backrest have? i only removed one.
if your gonna try this yourself get the right ool, pulling hog-rings all morning with needle nose pliers kills the fingers and bends the listing wires slightly.
also do they sellnew foam for the back cushion and rear upper rest?

yeah i find foam for the front seats, but nothing for the rear. removing it it looks like it is just foam cut to fit.
hog rings and hog ring plier i do intend on getting when ordering the upholstery.

I just finished reupholstering all of my seats tonight, the front seats you can order foam for, and is worth it in my opinion because it can get expensive. However, the mustang shops told me no one make rear seat foam, so you can reuse your own or shape your own out of some generic foam. Luckily my rear seat foam was still in good shape so I could reuse it.
for my rear seat I have 4 wire listings for the bottom part, and 1 long wire listing along the bottom of the backrest portion. However my 69 fold down seat is harder I'm sure.
When You get your new seat covers, they will have the listing sleeves sewn into them so you'll be able to determine how much you'll need. If you don't have enough, or they are too bent up, you can make some out of coat hangers (this is what an article I read said to do, I personally didn't do it though).
And yeah my hands are still sore, this is hard work! I used needle nose pliars and wire cutters to remove all my hogrings, seemed to work pretty good. You get used to it and learn the technique after awhile. Wait till you have to hogring through your new foam, those listings are a real pain in the ***. Made me give up for a few months until i did them again
good luck!

As for the foam, when I got some for a different car project I got some from a local fabric store, so Michaels should have the same. I think what I got was 2in foam, maybe less, but they had it all, in multiple densities too. For yours I would only worry about filling in the parts that are damaged because the original foam has some nice contours and stuff that I would hate to get rid of.
My back seat had a big rip in it so a chunk of foam was worn down as well, but it wasn't too large. What I did for it was stuff in some "bedding" and it seemed to work well. It is still nice and cushy and you can form it easy to fill in the holes. I just looked for a picture of the bedding stuffed in and realized thats like the only thing I didn't take a picture of. So yeah in short I would go to michaels and pick up some foam and bedding, it should come in handy.
Oh yeah and an upholstery place will do it for like 100 or so, but you don't get the satisfaction that you did it yourself, which is what I wanted. Also the work an upholstery shop is not necessarily guaranteed, I've seen some not so great stuff come out of them, but also perfect stuff. *EDIT* rbrown added a picture, those seats look fabulous, definitely did a great job for that 100.
