I am finishing up my Ron Francis installation and have a question - do I need to ground the starter switch? I ran the 4 wires directly to the switch but have no juice when trying to use the starter switch - when I turn the engine over directly with the solenoid, the engine won't fire (the electric fuel pump works though and sent fuel to the carb). I was thinking that I might need to ground the switch by running a wire to the bolt on the back of the switch and grounding this to the frame -- does this make sense?
Also, I did pull out the plug from #1 and noticed that I am not getting spark to the plug.
If you can post some pics of the fuse panel I think I can help. I am having some issues to but I believe mine is related to a cheap universal ignition switch.
so the ground would be with the fuse box, starter, solenoidthen?
I think I must have the wires in the wrong plugs on the switch
The fusebox is not grounded, but the solenoid (through the metal ears that attach to the fender apron) and the starter (through the mount to the engine, then ground strap from the engine to the frame or negative battery lead depending on where it is connected) are.
Dakmor, your problem sounds like the ignition wires are connected to the acc terminal instead of the ign terminal. Some of those aftermarket switches are hard to figure out what terminal is what.
how did you like the ron francis kit sooo far. im getting ready to purchase a kit and dont know whether to go with ron or painlesswiring
I have not yet finished the complete install, but is great and leaves you with plenty of options. The hardest part is deciding where to mount the fuse panel.
