Default doors keep flying open

alright guys this is it. i'm raged again. i cannot for the life of me safely drive this car right now, the doors keep flying open even when locked. today i just got burger king, drove home, went to take a left turn, the passenger door flew open and out goes my food on the highway.

normally the doors you have to slam shut a bit then you have to lock them or they will come open. - the passenger side is the worst. the hinges or whatnot locks, etc. they all look fine, is there some adjustment to be made or what? this is seriously getting annoying, and now the car owes me $3.96

Maybe the striker plate is worn?

What I'm also thinking is that the striker in general is just badly adjusted. There should be two latches in your latch, the safety and the other one. In other words it clicks two times to be fully latched. If the striker is adjusted too far inward, then only the first latch could be catching therefore causing it to fail with higher G forces and whatnot. This is the first place I'd play with.

Also, stay away from Burger King, that stuff'll kill you. I think your car may have saved your life.

I read the first few lines of your post and could not help but to laugh... I know it is pretty serious but it is still pretty funny... Do the doors not line uo right? prhaps your closing latches are worn. It sounds like they may need to be replaced.

i would say worn out latches, or mis alligned striker plates, if not one of those 2 things then it is just operator error

the doors are lined up as they've never been moved i'll go check the strikers and such in a bit when it cools down some. gotta do some other things first. it's fine when you shut the door and lock it and whatnot, it's come open a few times when locked but this is obnoxious. the 2 plates look brand new , the latches look like they've seen better days but i dunno

whats worse is i live in a smaller area so people see my car often, and at least 20-30 people saw it happen, i just kept on going like i didn't know :|

Sorry man,,,, I have to laugh!

The old time latches are not really 'positive" as newer ones. Mal-adjustment can cause many of the early style latches to work poorly or even not at all.

In any case, I would start fresh, and install all new latches and strikers. It will be worth the time and money for peace of mind and to prevent the wastage of burger king gruel..

I have not eaten burger king for some time... last time I had burger king I found a hair protruding from a burger patty..... it was obviously singed and very course,,, when I found it halfway through the burger, I instinctively tried to pull it off, well it would not pull off it had to "pull out" instead, with a hunk of meat, Iam surethat this hair was still in the follicle,,,, It grossed me out to the max, it has almost given me the ability to be bulimic, I almost get to puke stage just thinking about it...[sm=grin.gif] [sm=smiley11.gif]

I was able to recover from the roach baked into the burger king bunthat I got years earlier,,,, accidents can happen, but hair in the meat from thesource is probably going to last forever in my mind....

Had a similar problem my passenger door, although my car never discarded my stuff.
If I slam it, it won't latch.
I have to lift a little and push firmly. Then it will stay shut just fine.
The hinges need to be rebuilt, and I adjusted the striker but still not right. It won't be right untill I correct the door sag.
Anyway, point is, try a real firm push. Mabey a little WD-40. If the hinge is shot it won't be right.
Don't eat fast food - that was instant Karma.
