Default 66 Electronis Voltage Regulator

Has anyone replaced thier standard regulator with a new Electronic one? My headlights and interior lightsflicker. Mustang Monthly in thier questions section said replace the regulator with a new style electronic one.

I'd like to see if anyone has tried this before I drop another $60 on my money pit.

Definitely a good idea. The mechanical ones are notorious for dying. If it's not a show car, go with the electronic unit.

For a little more than $60.00 you can get a 100 amp one wire alternator....

I know this is not what everyone wants to do with their Mustang, but I did want to make you aware of this option!!

Yeh. They are only $10.00 at the auto parts store.

Where did the $60.00 figure come from?

Got one at Advance Auto about a year ago for under $20.
Worked fine, but I have since gone to a big 1-wire Alt so I can run an electric fan & audio amps.

Thanksdad,
All of the new Vreg you buy today are electronic (unless you specificfally want a old relay type which are very limited)and do a much better job of controlling the alternator's output. i believe you can pick one up about anywhere for about 10-15 bucks. I also saw a conversion for a 1 wire alternator in the NPD catalog for 40bucks.

The electronic units are NOT $10, heh. Not last time I checked, anyway. Generally they're $25-60, depending on the manufacturer. I believe Napa's (Echlin)is about 40.

$59.95 at CJ's. Stopped by Advance Auto for something else today and figured I would get a price from them. When he told $14.00 I bought it. I'll put it in this weekend and she how she does.

Not all voltage regulators are electronic, some are still the old mechanical versions.

I just bought this ELECTRONIC one from NAPA for $16.00 locally. Checkers had it listed for $52.
