Default starter selenoid problem

I have a 66 mustang 289 auto, and it keeps blowing selenoids, I am on my third one and every time i replace it, it turns over for about 10-15 seconds and then dies out, like the battery is dying and then just makes this buzzing noise from the selenoid. what would make the selenoids only last about 10 seconds?

Default RE: starter selenoid problem

Just to let you guys know whatI have done since having this problem, new selenoids(2), starter bench tested, new battery, new starter to selenoid cable, new battery ground cable. both times that I have replaced the selenoid it starts, but only for one or two starts then the selenoid goes bad. Each time it turns over fine and then slowly dies like the battery is going bad, but the battery is new and even with a charger on it the selenoid just makes that buzzing sound.

I replaced the ground cable, before the last selenoid and no difference, the only time itturns over is with a new selenoid, but only for 10- 15 seconds and then the selenoid dies

already replaced the starter cable, it has to be the selenoid, because every time i replace it it immediately turns over they just dont last for more than 10 -15 seconds or one or two starts

If the solenoid isgetting very hot before the breakdown, then their is something causing the highcurrent draw. It may be the starter has shunted and is causing this, or its not lined up correctly and needs a shim. Also check the wire from the solenoid to the starter to see if its getting hot. Sometimes corossioncanbe a problem. If their is any doubt about the quality of thewire, then change it. Also again, check the engine for a good ground strap, if unsure, then add one or change the other out for a new one. An easy way to check for proper engine ground is use a set of jumper cables. You can hook the black to the(-) on the battery and find a clean bolt on the engine to hood the other end (not near the carb) and see if that helps.
