Default wheel and tires

i have a 65 mustang with the 200 sprint. and i want to upgrade my stock wheels and tires. so my question is should i up grade to a five lug patern or stay with the four lug and should i up grade to disc brakes? i do plan to plan to to put some performance parts on to boost the hp.

Hellow, welcome to the forum.

This question gets asked a LOT. I would do a search for it.

There are a multitude of options, I bet everyone drops in any second and gives an opinion.

if you're planning on performance modes, what types? How much hp are you looking at?

I ended up going to 5 lug, and bought some American Racing Torque Lites, 17x8 on back, 17x7 on front. I would do the brakes first, then tires.

If your looking to upgrade your wheels/tires, you might aswell convert to 5 lug as that will give you a much larger choice on the wheels.

There is a ton of information on this site about front brake conversion to Granada disc. Just look around..

its not an easy task switching to 5 lug (I've done it) and really isn't cheap unless you already have a line for a proper 9" rear at a decent price because buying all the parts new you can drop $1500 quickly.

but these rims are pretty ugly yeah you get more rim options but with all the work it'll take and expense I'd stick with stock. What rims do you have on yours now? I have my old rims/tires sitting in the corner that you could have for a little more than shipping cost unless you're anywhere within driving distance of Kalamazoo, MI then you could pick them up... could be worth it for the tires though.

You should do the swap if nothing more than for wheel selection. Disc's up front will take care of the front end. Start sourcing an 8" for the rear, expect to pay $100-$300 for it.

There's no reason for this person to get a 9" rearend. The OP has a 200, which will be slightly modified. If the stocker 7.5" won't handle it, an 8" will DEFINITELY handle the amount of power.

There's a lot of options. Check out www.classicinlines.com if you want some cool rims without changing over to 5-lug.

I was only able to find two styles of 4 lug for my 66. I went with American Racing Outlaw II. They look good and they ran about $90.00 each. If I could ever figure out how to post pictures here I would show them to you.
