driveshaft
who makes driveshafts for these ? i don't want to deal with Mustangs Plus and their 399.00 price tag - i think the rubber is failing / rotted in the back of mine and it's causing vibration (you can look at it from under the car bouncing around) so.. anyone know?
it still surprises me that so many repairable things you guys need haveto come from parts vendors.
within 30 miles of me i have a shop that makes tailshafts. another place that does springs...whatever you want. another that rebonds balancers; radiator repairs and recores; exhaust shops all over the place andso on.
how come there's no local businesses any more especially since most of the vendors are selling stuff made in China and Taiwan?????

here in the states it all the jobs are slowly evaporating. eventually we will be nothing more than a country of fastfood and walmart employees[8D]
granted i could get the d/s repaired here locally but i was assuming he wanted a new alum shaft

There aren't that many shops in some areas that do that kind of stuff. And often, it's about the same cost or only slightly more to get a replacement part that's new. It's not always worth it to get something repaired, when for 50% more you can get something that's 100% better. And it's hard to find a good shop that does good work and won't rip you off these days.
well i suppose its not that different here
our manufacturing capabilities drop off every year and almost everything you buy these days is throwaway.
not really surprising when the unskilled wage rate in China is $18.50 USD...........per week.

We as a nation are becoming (or have become) a bunch of dumb asses!
The problem is that instead of paying a nickle extra for a domestic product, we choose the "import version"....
We as this same nation, then like to bitch that all of the jobs are moving overseas,,, but we still have that nickle we saved.... only problem is that nickle ain't worth a damn anymore....

We are idiots! I don't think anything can be done, I have heard it said that "you can't fix stupid".

I imagine we are in the same boat hey Aussie! I like to think that America is not the only nation bent on self destruction!

same all over the place. when I was a mechanic in germany we fixed everything ourseleves. taken apart gearboxes and diffs and engines back at Opel. That was in 1990. Already in 1994 we found that sometimes it's cheaper to replace the whole thing as cost of repair (hours x money + spare parts) was more expensive ... i wouldn't be surprised if tyhey would rather get a new alternator instead of changing brushes in the old one. And I wouldn't be suprised too much if it wouldn't be possible anymore in the new ones.
in times where you get money for a rebuildable core it seems cheaper to have the work done by the manufacturer who specialse on that.
I'm in the process of converting a former 6banger to a 9" rear and T5 diff. I guess I migh thave to cut the old driveshaft (don't know yet). But I already did my research and I was glad to hear that there in Ireland where I live now is a tiny shop for cutting/balancing driveshafts (probably for tractors) 50 miles away. Happy days

Yep, I took apart an alternator because I wanted to see how hard it would be to rebuild (it was an old one). I realized it was pretty easy so went about looking for parts. It was so expensive for the parts that I have decided to just buy a new one. So I guess I'm one of the dumbasses JMD is referring to, but oh well.
I used to own a guitar shop, I can tell you the average American consumer will buy an inferior product if it's a few bucks cheaper.
America has become a nation of wussified sheeple, that's for sure.
