Default 66 cowl repair

I had no rustthrough in my cowl but a lot of surface rust and a couple pounds of media from the media blasting. When I spun it on the rotisserie it was a sand storm in my gagage. So I removed all the spot welds (about 110 to 120 of them) I put 4 good sticky wet coats of por-15 on the cowl base and underside of cowl exterior.

I then replaced the cowl exterior and re-welded the spotwelds with my Mig. Grinding smooth and sealing the seams with 100% polyurathane. The poly is lighter than the original seam sealer and actually adds structural strenth to the uniboby.

The more seams that can be strenthened the better.

I lucked out finding a clean Colorado car with only a small amount of rust, and a little bodywork.

It's not as bad as it seems. You can do it on a weekend.

Shawnb23, remove the fenders and hood first, then drill out all the spot-welds with a spotweld drill bit. Get them at your favorite toolstore or about $5 at Harbour frieght. I counted at least 110 welds on my 66, and did them all with the same $5 bit. Just be patient.
