Default Excessive C4 shifter play

So I finally got all of the pieces to put the stock shifter assembly back in my car, so I thought. I got everything put together last night and the shifter has a ton of play in it. I really notice that it does it where the shifter goes through the floor and connects to the linkage below. Are there some bushings that I need? Everything I bought it used so I'm pretty sure I didn't get every little piece.

If play is side to side there are a set of plastic bushings that wear out and are cheap to replace. One you can replace by removing the top plate and accessing from the inside the other is more difficult and will need to be replaced from the bottom.
I just replaced the top one and it tightened up the shifter nicely.

ya, you can order a set from any of the parts houses. they are called shifter bushings or something and are less than 5 bucks. I am assuming the play is from side to side, correct?

Ya it moves pretty freely from side to side. I assume this is also why I can move the shifter forward and backwards without pushing the button.

Yeah, I just fixed this issue with my shifter last week, it takes about an hour. I found the easiest way was to remove the shifter cover and pull the little light bulb out, then disconnect the shifter from the linkage and unbolt the shifter from the floor. There should be a pin on the drivers sideunder the car that holds the linkage together. If you pull that out then you should be able toremove the whole shifter from the car so when you're removing the shifter andinstalling the brushingsyou don't accidentally kick the car into neutral. It also lets you clean the inside of the shifter out and reattatch the shifter lever that connects to the linkage without having to be on your back under the car with a socket wrench.

I won't have to worry about lying on my back anymore. We have a 4 post lift now But yea it shouldn't be too hard since i just assembled the whole thing, just without the bushings. Thanks guys.
