Default Intake Removal

Any trick to remove an intake that has been sitting on the engine for about 28 years? got all the bolts loose but it won't move

Should I use the engine lifting plate and try to lift with my hoist?

Allideas are welcome!

I have a dead blow hammer for those occasions. I broke a aluminum intake with the old prybar method thats why I bought the coated dead blow hammer.

I'm going to assume it's cast iron since it's 28yrs old and say go ahead with a breaker bar.Even if you can get a large screwdriver in between themanifold and block right in the front, you should have enough leverage.

But yeah, no breaker bar on an aluminum manifold. Dead blow hammers are your friend there.

6 inch spackle blade use it to break the seal between the intake and the heads.

A large screwdriver worked for me. Its heavy so be careful lifting it out.

I used a large prybar in the thermostat housing. Popped right off.

All good ideas and tips, intakes do stick down pretty good so it may take a little more effort than you thought. Good luck.

Do you have access to a cherry picker or some kind of overhead hoist? You can bolt a chain to the carb studs or some of the accs holes on the intake and then take it off. Before I had a cherry picker I would take the thermostate housing off and put a pry bar in the hole and pop it off.
