Found an issue that I need some help with. pic added
65 289 with C4 tranny, that I have been replacing the top end on.
Today when starting to replace thepassenger's side exhaust manifold. I notice two dowel pins sitting just inside the bellhousing ,on the lip, where I had removed the starter. Theyobviously have fallen from somewhere in a heretofore unsymptomatic transmission.
The dowel pins are 1/4 diameter and 7/16 in length. One is a little chewed upon and the other is not.
I have been learning as I go and have no idea about transmissions, but I know that these little dowls sitting on the bottom in the bell housing can't be good news.
Break it to me gently.

Ready for this, gonna hurt pretty bad......
They come from between your head and block. Perfectly normal. They align the head gasket when you put it on, and align the head also when they go on. Put em back before the heads go on. They go and the bottom of the deck to the far left and right.

They are solid like roller bearings or something. Note that they were on the inside of the bell housing in the recess here the starter bolts on (behind the starter on the inside), as if swept there by the fly wheel.
They look like either a dowl pin for alignment of something or a roller bearing.

bump.
Are there pin bearings or alignment dowels anywhere in the bell housing that could explain these?
I am a few days away from breaking in the new flat tappet cam, but now I am worried about these.
I do know that they did serve a purpose and should not be collected in the bottom of the bell housing I just cannot find, and do not know where they came fromor what to do.
ANY HELP APPRECIATED.
