replacing my front crank seal and wondering about the timing chain. it is very snug on one side and kinda loose on the other, this normal or should it be tight all the way around??

No, it may be slightly loose on the unloaded side. When the crank turns it pulls the chain on one side of the cam sprocket, and the other side realxes some. Still though it should be very minimal slack on one side, and hard as a rock on the other(if it's been loaded from the engine running). The question, is how much slack is on the loose side?

+1 it will be tighter on one side if it still has pressure on it. Turn the engine backwards and see if it equalizes the chain. It should.

As cheap as they are go ahead and replace it. I would never go in that far and leave the old one unless I had personally installed it and knew it's age.

That's true, if the setup has miles on it and you're already there, might as well replace it with a good double roller.
