Default Difference between coils

Since your too lazy to read through that other thread I dug up (or maybe you don't know the answer) I am making a new thread!

So what's the deal with the different ohm versions on these PerTronix Flame Thrower coils. I'm looking to get the epoxy coil so i can mount it on it's side and I noticed they offer a 1.5 ohm and a 3.0 ohm version. What's the difference?

I also wanted to clarify where exactly to tap into the orginal pink resistor wire and where to run that new wire. Look at the pic below and tell me if I'm right:

So then what do you do with the original ignition wire that was hooked to the coil (I think it's the red/green one)? Unhook it and hide it somewhere? I've also noticed that my pink ignition wire seems to get very hot, almost too hot to touch. Is that normal or should I be expecting a fire soon?

Yes, that's exactly where you need to splice the wire...if you're going to splice it. The "proper" way to do it is to crimp on a new 90* spade onto your new coil wire and connect that to the switch directly, but I did the splice and it seems to work fine.

Can't answer the coil resistance question, but I bet one of those coils is designed foruse with an externalresistor and the other one isn't. A quick call to Pertronix would answer that question.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. I am curious though as to how much of a difference electronic ignition makes. I'd been thinking of buying one of those PerTronix kits, but didn't know what to expect as far as power gains, or increased reliability, ect.

I'd love to hear from someone who's made the switch and how it helped their car (there was no electronic ignition info in FAQs).

I have the Pertronix and I really like it. No more points to mess with ever again! There isn't any performance gains over properly ajusted points however, points burn, wear down over time which leads to a drop in performance. With the pertronix that is no longer a concern. They claim up to 4x more spark energy due to adaptive dwell and easier starting. I am not sure about all the claims but my car starts first crank every time and I never have to adjust points again! Well worth 90 bucks. Plus you can retain the stock distributor look. Hope that helps
