Default Gears, gears gears

Hey I am looking to install some new gears in my 69. currently they are the stock 2.75's, which just arent cutting it. I was just wondering what you guys think? It is a 4 day a week driver, so pretty often and freeway included, bout 15 miles freeway round trip. I was thinking some 3.5's or is that too steep?

That's not too bad if your tires are at least 25.5 inches tall. Will feel real good. But your usual driving speed on the freeway will probably determine if they are too steep thoough...lol Can't easilt cruise at 90.

do you have tire info, trans info, all that good stuff. You have to remember that you will get worse gas mileage, which for a 4 day a week driver might be a deciding factor if it was me and i was doing anything more than a 15-20 mile round trip. Something inbetween may be a good comprimise.

I have 3.55's with a C4 in my 66. But with the amount of driving/highway your going to be doing, I would go with the 3.25's.

I went from 2.90 to 3.25.
You can definetly feel a difference. If you go under 50-55 in town your mileage may increase.
It will only decrease at highway speed.
3.25's are a good compromise. I read some post where guys went from 2.79 to 3.00's and they were not happy because the change was so little.

Ive got the 2.75's with my FMX tranny and the only way I am changing gears is if I get a new tranny to go along with it.. Either a 5 speed or a AOD.. It may be a little slow off the line but once its up to 60 im good to go.. Plus mine is more of a cruiser. What transmission do you have? Im looking at T5's and that would mean some 3.55's for me.. But not otherwise..

I have 3.25'swith 24" tires and I'm fine doing extended freeway trips. In fact, Idrove for 8 hours this weekend at 70mph. Granted, I'm pushing 3200rpm at that speed, but my engine handles that just fine If you've got shorter tires, I'd say 3.25's. If you've got 26" tires, 3.50's.

Alright I have Zexius, 245/45ZR17 95W, they are stated at 25.68 in overall diameter.

The trans is a 4 speed auto, upgraded from the original FMX.

351 Winsor, 2bar. carb.

So the 3.00, 3.25 or 3.55's? I still want decent mpg, specially with gas nowadays. I am leaning towards 3.25.
