Pony vs Muscle Car
There are some things that I would like to ask the people who made that. Its a great general gauge, but what about the heavy chevy? Its not an SS but was a bare bones 454 car made to go fast, and what about the mopars that are not R/Ts with big blocks? Most of them where looked at as sleepers? If nothing else it makes for good debate. The worst part is I like them all pony, muscle and everything inbetween.
Perhaps the most common question people have is what exactly is a muscle car. The term wasn't even used until the late 1970s, in the 1960s there were often called "Super Cars" if called anything at all. Therefore, the actual definition of a muscle car, or which models were muscle cars, is a topic that is often disputed. Here is the general interpretation of what is a muscle car and what cars qualify, and which don't.
All the car magazines give the GTO the first muscle car badge. I think they not only want the intermediate body and big block, but also distinctive badges to identify it. In my opinion the first "muscle car" was a 1955 Chrysler 300. They were smaller than a full size and came with 300hp dual 4-barrel set ups and had the 300 badges. 300hp was a milestone using 8:1 compression to live on the 80 octane back then.
A bigblock Mustang like the 390GT's or Boss 429's should also be a muscle car. One with a 289/302 should not.

you know what i say, i say we ditch the term "pony" car and start calling them "those bad-ace cars that will spank you every time" hehehe no really i think we should do away with the whole pony cars thing cause my dad drove a 1968 900hp coupe "pony" car in the 70's back when there was *gulp* eythel mmmmmwwwwaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

In mid-1971 and continued through 1972, the base Chevelle Sport Coupe was offered as the "Heavy Chevy" model featuring special striping and other appearance items. The "Heavy Chevy" was available with any V8 engine offered in the Chevelle roster ranging from the 307 two-barrel to the 402 four-barrel. However, the 454 big-block was only offered with the "SS" package and not available with the "Heavy Chevy" option.
Muscle car is a midsize car seats 4 2 door 300hp+ stock.A pony car was the compact car of its time its smaller then a midsize but still has some power to it.A mustang is not and never will be a muscle car its too small compare a mustang to a fairlane the fairlane is a midsize its huge next to a mustang.
