Default fuel injection swap

alright guys, i cannot find information for this but i want to know if it's viable without a cam swap.

since the 289 uses the older firing order, swapping the ecu from a H.O. wouldn't be fine would it because it uses the new firing order which would lead to some problems - is there something i can do about this other than swapping the cam for a 351/ho firing order or what? can't i just rewire the distributor ? or something? :| ugh.

You mean rewire the injectors? Sounds feasable but it's not. When the right hand O2 sensor detects a change in mixture the PCM will adjust the flow to the injectors on the right bank. Problem is when you rewired the injectors, some of the right bank injectors are now on the left bank. Can you see what is happening?
You need to swap in a modern cam grind. You may as well go ahead and make it a hydraulic roller and do it right.

Either that or go aftermarket EFI. It'd be cheaper to go stock and swap to a roller cam.

nah i don't want to deal with a roller cam, none of that garbage. i preffer the flat tappet but that's just personal prefference - i won't change from that but i was talking about for the firing order so things wouldn't get all mucked up. i remember reading about it on mustangs plus iirc.

If your going go to a speed density setup just save your money and keep the carb, but if you want a truely efficient efi system you can build one yourself, look into accel dfi, motec, etc. And btw a roller cam will give you smoother idle, improved efficiency, and less adjustment but its your choice if you dont want any of the garbage.

You can't reroute the wires unless you have a cam ground for the 351W firing order

You don't NEED a roller cam. Just get a good modern cam grind for the 351 order. A custom grind with 112-114 degree lobe seperation angle will work good with the EFI.
Plan on new springs to go with the cam.
