mini or not (starter)

mini or not (starter)
I am in the process of changing the starter on my 65. The one I have now is getting heat soaked. Should I get a mini or a new full size rebuilt one. Will the new full size get heat soaked or is it due to age and wear and tear.

RE: mini or not (starter)
Mustangs don't really have the heat soak issues that other cars (ie. GM andMopar) do. The headers (assuming you have headers) simply don't run that close to the starter like they do in other vehicles. So, you'll be fine with a standard size starter.
That said, I have a PowerMaster PMGR starter and I really like it. It kicks faster than an OE style and it's a lot smaller and lighter, which makes installation nice.

Thats not what I have read. Many people have said that the mustang can have a heat soak problem. My car has an issue with starting when the engine is hot. It cranks slow then all of a sudden gets faster, then starts.

depends...im assuming you have long tube headers which would cause you to believe it was heat soaked. if so get the mini, it will be much easier to install. i got to learn that one the hard way when my starter went out at 9:00 one night in the parking lot at work. not fun changing that sucker out and trying to get that new one to fit.
