I did the paxton thing. I think they are in the mid 3k area now also. Lots more than just slapping a blower on your motor needs to be considered 1st.
If you just bolt one on your stock 289 you have wasted your cash do some research before you get in to the big power adders.

You are going to need mucho bottom end and super strong fasteners all over if you are going to play with boost. The cost of the blower is only half the cost of playing with boost.
I have an efi motor so it was slightly different than what you may want but here is what I was into the blower conversion.
Vortech V2 Polished kit for a Fox Mustang $2850
42 lbinjectors $260 (ebay)
MAF meter $125 (ebay)
custom inlet pipe materials $120
Custom tune $600
AFR heads (doesn't make sense to put on ablower if the engine doesn't breath well) $1400
Head gaskets $150
Other gaskets $50
Misc fittings $50
Redo fuel lines or larger diameter $150
ARP head studs $100
I am sure I am forgetting some things but this give you an idea. The blower is the cheap part. I did not realize that when I started. Oh yea, since it was not a direct bolt in for my application I spent about 40 hours on the install. [:@]

Guys, you can run a blower stock motor just fine. The rods are fordged and the crank will out last the block. The pistons are weak if they are cast. Just need to be careful on the tune. A cast piston won't take as much rattling from detonation. Det. will kill anything, but cast faster. But you can make 400 hp safely though.
yeah, you can run one on a stock 289. dude around town here has been running that 174 or whatever from B&M for like 9 years on his and it's stock. :| personally i'm going with a single turbo using one of my old hand me down GN turbos we had laying around (PT51)

might as well rebuild with forged internals, heads, cam, intake, etc etc. run it all motor. 400hp is nothin for an all motor 302.
if someone was to get a blower, then you might as well run a decent amount of boost and try hitting around 500-600 hp on a built motor. no need to waste 3 or 4 grand on a blower project and only get 400hp from it. not to mention the risk of blowing it up....
