i bought my 68' coupe with a 302, that ran great, had very decent interior, extremely minnimal rust ( only a little bit of cancer in the passenger floor pan ) for $2125 at a auction in a tow yard.

it was impounded for street racing.
but that was a steal
but they are deffinitaly out there.
BTW i live in So Cal

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but you will have a very hard time finding a '67 or '68 fastback that has the floors, interior, engine, etc... for $5000; although it is possible if you find the right seller. Try looking at coupes, they're way cheaper and way easier to find, good luck and have fun!

+1

even fastback shells are bringing quite a bit these days. I would suggest posting a want ad on craigslist. Dont just jump on the first one you get. make sure it is the right one for you. Most of us waited months before buying our stangs.

also, you could look in to getting a coupe. you could get one in much better shape for the price and they still look dang sexy (better than FB's in my opinion, although most would disagree).

good luck! if you find one and want an opinion if its a good deal, just post a thread with some pics and details and we would be glad to help you out.

No, I totally agree We are the 20-25 year old new classic Mustang appreciation society

Go for a coupe, you'll save money (that you will of course put in something else ... for the car)

Fastback shells are worth 5,000. Just go with a coupe. I bought my coupe for 5500 and the only problem was it had been hit in the passenger door.
