Default Need help with 68 302

rebuilding 68 302 with 4 speed toploader and I need help with a couple of things. 1st what starter can i get for this motor? Dumb ? huh, but I have a 164 tooth flywheel. Called Mustang Unlimited, CJ Pony Parts, Summit. They all seem to scratch there heads a say I don't know. Most of the starters online don't state either 157 or 164 but some do say "will not work with 164 tooth" anyone have this set up and if so what starter do I get. 2nd ? I need all new pulleys. at this time I do not have AC but I will add later. Do I get the pulley set with 2 groove crank or 3 groove. I will not have PS.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you could find an aftermarket high torque for 164t as well, that's a common size in bigger racing apps. And I didn't realise there was a difference in starters, I knew the bellhousings were different though.

Starters are the same regardless of flywheel and bellhousing. Get one for a 77 truck. The hot terminal is a better design and will provide more clearance to the header.
Special note / warning: Do not turn in your original starter as a core. There are millions of reman starters that have inncorrect machine dimensions on the aluminum snout section. Seems that these defective units were machined to the diameter required for the automatic transmission block plate. They will not fit the M/T block plate. In this case you should swap the orignal Ford snout section onto the reman motor, and then turn in the left over pieces as a core.

This is not a joke...
