Default Tips on pulling eng. on a 70

Im (restoring) a 70 fastback and Im going to pull the engine out to freshen it up a bit. Never done it before so any info would be great. The closest I ever came to pulling an engine was jacking up the eng in a 94 bronco to put an oil pan on it.

Should get attached book by Tom Monroe. Section on pulling engine is excellent. Used it when pulling mine.

I pulled mine on the 69, basicallly take off off the starter, then take off the inspection plate on the transmission housing, and bag it up. When this is off you can see the flexplate, spin the crank with a wrench and undo all 4 bolts on the flywheel visible through the inspection hole. Once these four are off the flexplate, then the flexplate and the torque converter in the tranny will be separated, so you won't damage anything. This is for an auto of course, if you have a manual I'm sure its similar with a clutch and all that.

then undo all the bolts along the bellhousing. Make sure you disconnect everything, gas line, throttle, wiring, etc. I recommend getting an engine pulling plate that bolts onto the carburator spot on the manifold, very useful. When it comes to actually pulling the engine, the hood will need to be off, and I believe you will have to remove the radiator, you might as well anyway since the fluid will be drained and you don't want to damage it.

Once you have all the hoses and wires and all that removed, put the cherry picker on the pullin plate losely. Take out motor mount bolts and then start pulling the engine up. From there just crank it up far enough that you can pull it out above the radiator support
