Default Improving PS feel

I havep/s on my 65 and it has no feel to it, I do want P/S as I have to do a 8 point turn to get my car out of storage every drive I take. So what is the best way to improve the fail, I am going to replace all bushing asap to help but I doubt that will give me the feel I want.

When I replaced my leaking power steering "slave cylinder" (the hydraulic ram) it seemed to have improved it. It just feels more solid, smooth, and tighter since all the seals are good. I think if yours had seen better days this could be a good replacement, but its a little expensive.

good luck!

I went with a larger pulley on the pump. It's 5 7/8" in diameter and slows the pump down enough to lower the pressure. It helped alot.

wouldn't lowering the pressure make it harder to steer?

thats sorta the point. if you have NO power steering, road feel, through the steering wheel is excelent, and very nice to drive. (the old boss mustangs and most other racers dont have any)if you have crude power steering, it makes it too easy to move the wheels and there is very little feel from the actual wheels.

Okay that makes sense, kinda like finding the right balance between the two which is sort of what I was figuring.

But the OP is saying he has to make an 8 point turn to take the car out which is clearly at slow speeds, so would changing that diameter make it too hard to steer at those low speeds? I guess as long as there is some power steering you are way better off than manual though eh?

EDIT: rereading his post he says he wants to improve the feel, so I guess all the other posts completely apply [:@]

I wish I knew. When I had my pump rebuilt, the pump and pulley were lost by the shipper. A friend found another pump and had a pulley lying around. It fit and we used it. It has, I believe, 'AF' marking on it. I don't know the application however.
