Default transmission question

I am trying to figure out if my '66 has a three speed or a 4 speed.

My guess is that it is a three speed, know from the data plate that is what it came out of the factory with.

However, is there some way to look at the transmission or otherwise tell what the transmission is?

I only ask because I need to order the backup lights switch and apparently it is a different switch for a 3 verses a 4 speed.

Automatic even though I sort of wish it was a manual.

Honestly, I don't know that I have ever looked. Will look next time I am out in the garage.

Does the green dot indicate one type of transmission verse the other?

you probably have a C4 three speed auto.

the green dots as far as I know are a dead giveaway of the c4.....Further more unless someone swapped it out for an AOD I dont think they ever came with 4 speed autos in a 66 I dont think there was such a thing...i might be wrong but i doubt it.

I have some paper work where the previous owner had it rebuilt some years ago, as far as I know it is the same type of transmission that came in it out of the factory. It may / may not be the original factory tranmission, not sure.

However, the previous owners were real big on keeping it as much as possible just like it came out of the factory so my guess is they either rebuilt it or replaced it with exactly what was in there.

i though it was

PARK

REVERSE

NUETRAL

RAIN (start in 2nd, then shifts to 3rd)

DRIVE (1st, 2nd, then 3rd)

1st (if you shift into this at above ~25 mph it wont shift down to first until you slow to below about 25mph.)
