Default diskbrakeswap caliper

everything was going good we installed the diskbrake swap3 kit for my 68 mustang.

started bleeding the brakes and then ran into a problem.

the passenger side would not bleed... no fluid would come out, but when we unhooked the line there was fluid in the line. so we took off both calipers and switched passenger for driver..etc. and the problem followed the caliper to the drivers side.

is it a bad caliper? we are finishing the car to give to the wife on her 40th birthday on sat. and this is going to hold us up.

anyone know the make of the caliper and know if we can just goto NAPA and get a new one?

or do any of you mustang gurus have troubleshooting help for us?

thanks
chris

sounds like the piston is siezed.

have you contacted denis direct at CSRP?

He's a member of this and various other mustang forums and will stand by his product.
If there's something wrong with the caliper i'm sure he'll help (512)947-6718

A siezed piston won't block the bleeder screw. I'd completely remove the screw and have someone mash the brake pedal to try to unclog whatever's obstructing the bleeder. Make sure you cover the bleeder hole to control spray.

I have to agree with the bleed screw. Remove it completely and see if you can get fluid to come out.

here is the reply from Dennis:

The piston has probably been forced too far into the bore. Replacement calipers are available from Advanced/Checker

now hopefully Kragen /Autozone/Pep Boys has one.

I state again! This and the other Mustang forums, are not an appropriate venue for pursuing your personal rants against vendors. Most people are not objectiveenough, and manydo not have the integrity to make an honest posting of the facts.

Here is the FULL text of Chris's email to me:

"HI we are having trouble w/ caliper the passenger side caliper would not bleed. But if we unhook the line there is brake fluid in the line. We unhooked both calipers and switched sides and the problem followed the caliper not the side of the vehicle. The car is a 40th birthday present for my wife (tomorrow) so looking for ideas on what we can do. Is there a quick fix? Can a caliper be overnighted to us? Can I goto NAPA and buy a new caliper?
thanks"

Here ismyCOMPLETE reply:

"Chris,
The piston has probably been forced too far into the bore. Replacement calipers are available from Advanced/Checker for $21.50. You can replace it and I will credit you up to that amount (FAX or email a 50K or less sized jpeg copy of the receipt), or I can send a replacement. I can not offer overnight shipping. Let me know.
Dennis"

Interesting how omitting a few words can make major changes to the context. I happen to believe that this is intentional. I don't understand the motive. I guess some people get off ondrama.

Dennis,

Cool that you are standing behind the product. I hadn't heard of your company before this post, and I appreciate the full text of your response.

I will definitely consider you for my swap later this summer.

hmmm.......... i would first like to say thanks for your help andyour answersolved the problem for us.

secondly i was not trying to cause drama, there were a few replies on here that i may have been a seized piston so i was just tring to pass along the information about what your reply was on what caused my problem. i was not trying to put in all the personal information, i do think that is great of you to offer a refund on a faulty part. But that really did not apply to the thread about what my problem was.

you dont have to worry about your product everyone on here speaks highly and i would definitely give a recomendation if anyone ever asks me. I think maybe you need to be a little less paranoid about people attacking you or your product or work on customer service skills instead of coming on to the forum and perpetuating drama.

forums have become great sources of information for good and bad products as well as vendors.

NOT trying to start any drama here so noone needs to reply what a great person Dennis is i fully give his product TWO THUMBS UP!!!
