Default wiring harness

are there large differences in wiring harness in the classic mustang between years?

the reason i am asking is because this weekend when i was changing the ignition i did not unhook the battery. and i pretty much fried a wire all the way from the dash to the ignition block.

btw: it is the black wire w/ green stripe on the ignition.

we tried to do a splice to cut out that wire from the beg. and end and run a new wire, but there are some things that are not working now, like the turn signal lights and we are getting a grounded wire problems so instead of trying to fix wire per wire we think probably 2 wires melted together. there are a few classic mustang wiring harnesses on ebay right now.

and i think this will be easier , kinda plug and play than buying an aftermarket kit and trying to rewire the whole thing.

but they are either a 67 or a v8 and i want to know if these will work with my 68 I6 Coupe?

Thanks
Chris

I hate electrical issues and face it.. whenever something doesn't work on a classic most people think of the electrical first. Right after I ordered front disks was the Ron Francis wiring harness. Its a HUGE upgrade for the car and makes things much more reliable for years to come. I just think its time after 40 years to upgrade and put in an updated wiring system.. and those old panels to me look like a damned electrical fire hazard they are so small! Lot of work but worth it to me.

I don't know what differences there are though they would be quite small between the 67 and 68 harnesses. Have fun with the tester and sorry to hear it got fried! Bet you'll think of the battery next time though.

thinking that the 67 wont work due to the assembly lights that were new on the 68, im not an electrical guy guess thats obvious since i fried the harness. But would it be difficult to add wiring for the assembly lights

Buy a wiring diagram for 1968 mustangs, you can buy them online at most any mustang specific store under the literature section.

Ron Francis is the way to go if you want to pay that kind of price, in fact theres is cheaper than that... http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort

It is really a painless kit and they give you plenty of wiring, the fuse box is nice and labeled as well.

that little baby is 619.00 just for the underdash...

i need from the ignition all the way to the battery.
because i fried a black wire with a green stripe that goes all the way up under the dash and then continues on under the hood.
we tried splicing it out from the ignition straight to the battery.. but we lost some underdash stuff and looks like we will have to replace then whole harness.
we cant really see where this wire goes after leaving the ignition and going under the dash without removing the whole thing.

just trying to see if repro. harness for 700.00 is the way togo.
or salvaged wire harness from parts vehicle will work?

Baited.... Sorry about that the harness is down a ways on the page but it is awesome and you can call them and iron out all the details.
