Default My broke 9" differential

Well, here it is. The 3rd member was set up several weeks ago. Would this break be caused by not setting it up right? If the lash is too tight would this happen? I would like to know if I can go back on the builder.

Is that the support bearing for the pinion ??? Holy CR@P!!! I doubt that tight lash would do that.

That doesn't make sense. I would think that the pinion would push away from the ring gear, and als forward. That is towards the ring gear and back (the exact opposite). I would send the builder the pics and make him warranty it. Obviously the gears themselves are fine, so he would just have to replace the third member (housing) itself and swap over all of the internals. It would cost him the housing and setup time, but I feel that this isn't your fault.

Their are so many chunks and parts that Ford made. Some are prone to be weak. The wear pattern on the teeth will tell you a lot. My opinion is, that if it wasn't set up properly, that could very well be the result. You can look at this maybe for some help. I feel your pain, I ripped the clutches out the rear of the KR during a shoot for Muscle Car TV. Its about a $10.00 fixand about 2-3 hours time.

Unless you have mega HP and torque, a properly built 9" should not break like that. Take it back.

Good luck with this, Valley. Sorry, but I am not in a position to offer you any advice at all.

All I can say is, maybe your car is just too damned powerful. Have you considered an I6 swap?

Builder issue. I broke one many years ago when I was first starting. It is caused by trying to press the bearing out from the wrong side.

[align=left]Good idea Luke. I will pull 2 plug wires. That way I'll at least have a supercharged 6 banger.

I have a good friend who gave me a 9" housing today. He and I tore both down and built his 3rd member with my gears. All the bearings were still new. I should have it in tomorrow.
