Default odometer

Would anyone happen to know how to turn back the odometer to whatever number needed? I've got an engine with lower mileage than what the odometer reads and I'd like to set it to that.

Turning back the odometerwould be against the law and would misrepresent the original miles on the vhehicle. That could get you in trouble and I advise toNOT do it

well im not selling the vehicle and plus i would record the mileage already on the car itself and then just add whatever mileage i add to the engine to the car's original mileage.I just want it to reflect the milage on the engine for my personal benefit, just would be easier that way because i dont care how much mileage the body has because Im pretty much having to put all new parts everywhere so it'll be almost a new car when i finish with it.Like i said, i plan on keeping this for the rest of my life and hopefully not for the rest of its life.

I ouldn't worry about problems with resetting milage. My speedo is stuck on 00000 because I reset it when I built my motor but can't get the gear to quit burning up. On the title it just says "not actual milage". What you have to do is get the "wheel" with the numbers on it out, spread numbers and it will turn. Hardest part is to get the little "feet" to line up to get it back in.

Unless your title says that the odometer reading is not actual, it is illegal. If it does say that, have at it. If not, title it so it does (It's just a check box on the form here in Illinois). Then have at it. Even though you don't plan to sell, are you going to be around tomorrow??? Hopefully so, but no one can be sure. I personally would just put a sticker in the glove box that says what odometer reading the engine was overhauled at.

I figured that resetting law wouldn't apply to our classics. I mean, my odometer says 27k but it might be 127k, 227k, who knows? And the engine has 0...

Discussing the issues with rolling back odometers is ok, but please refrain from suggesting to do it or explaining how. I will have to delete the text and lock the post at that point.

sorry...
