Default Horn ring problems

I'm not really good with cars, so sorry if the solution is extremely obvious. Anyway, I have a problem where my horn pretty much constantly is going off, so right now I just have one of the cables disconnected with electrical tape over it so it won't make contact. I think there might be a part missing that's supposed to seperate the two contact plates, if there is, can anybody point me to where I can order one online, and if there isn't, or if it's another problem, could you tell me what to do to fix it?
Oh, it's a '67 mustang by the way.

Thanks,

d

I don't have an answer but I do have a suggestion. Get a Shop Manual, they are available on C/D or Paperback. The C/D is less money the paperback is easier to use. I have found mine to be invaluable. Any Mustang supplier will have them.

well do you have a original steering wheel or a grant custom one? Pics will help. I can provide a explanation once i know, as i just replaced my stock one with a grant one yesterday, and the instructions on them are kind of retarded. I had 3 sets of instructions. one for the wheel, one for the installation kit, and one for the horn center cap... all 3 of which said NOT to use certain parts of the other kits... sigh.

Anyway, let me know what youve got and I'd be glad to help. and +1 on the shop manual. those things are priceless.

I can't figure out how to get the pictures to display in here, so I'll just give you links.
If you need any more, just tell me.

The wheel
Closeup of the wires coming from the wheel
The horn parts I have
First Contact Plate
Second Contact Plate
Horn Button

Thanks,

Ok yeah looks like a grant custom. Do yourself a favor. Order a new installation kit, and a new horn ring... follow the instructions provided, and you'll be all set.

I assumed you had the orignal wheel.

I agree you have a Grant, your parts are the exact same ones I have. You are missing three little pieces of foam that keep the two plates from being in constant contact. The install kits run about $25-30 bucks and most Auto Parts stores should have them in stock. You could try to make foam pieces but if they are to large or too thick you may have problems.

Brak down and buy a new kit.
