Default Flex fan spacer

Just picked up a flex fan to replace my original four blade fan, hoping to cool things down in traffic. Thing is, which is more important, the distance from the radiator or how deep it sits in the shroud. The fan manufacturer says best efficiency is with the blade around 1" from the radiator. However, they also state that the fan should be half in/out of the shroud. Well, I can't do both. Either it sits deep in the shroud, or it sits over two inches from the radiator. If I want the fan half in/out of the shroud, I would need a 2 1/2" spacer. I probably should email the manufacturer, but thought I'd throw it up here anyway. Any suggestions? Thanks.

i dont think its going to make that much of a difference honestly. as long as whichever way you end up installing it the blades arent completely out of the shroud i would think you should be ok.

It did make a difference in my Cougar. It was inside the shroud close to the radiator, Ran hot, real hot. Read on a website that the blades should be half in and half out of the shroud. We cut the spacer, mounted it, FIXED. We had replaced thermostat, water pump, and radiator. All along, it the fan to shroud realtionship. Half in half out.

Exactly, you want the fan half in and half out of the shroud for optimal efficiency. Too close to the radiator and it screws up airflow.
