Default Front tires are too tall.. 69/w 235-55-17

Front tires are a little too tall and rub the valance at full turn.. actually about 3/4's turn.. Soooo.. has anyone trimmed the inner corner of the valance to clear a wheel before?Im sure someon has.. How did it look?
I like the size of the tire so I dont want to change that, but am willing to change the valance,, and if I screw it up too much then hell they are only about $90.. I say that really not wanting to change the valance though.. $90 is a lot of money when youve got two kids in daycare.

Ill try and get a pic up tonight..

It's common knowledge that the late model Mustang 235-55 series tires will not fit on the front of our classics.

Can you change the tire size instead of modifying the car?

You could trim the fenders/valance, but what's going to happen when the front suspension compresses while the wheel is turned? Right now it's interferring without being under compression.... when you're driving and go around a corner and there's a dip in the road, that tire is going to cut into something.

You're better off getting properly fitting tires onto the car than making the car fit the tires.

i run 245's in the front on my 67 and i don't have any rub issues unless i cut it to the maximum, other then that is no problem. tho.. i do rub with 275's in the back just a tad.. but that might be because the rear end is off a smidge

Yea, but I like the meaty look of the front tire. I was thinking this same thing though.. If I get some new front tires then I can save the old ones to use when the rears go bald,, depending on how old they are by then. I dont know though. I think I will do some suspension mods before changing or cutting anything. Maybe dropping the front will give me a little more room to work with against the front valance.

Seems like a lot of work to make take off tires work.

Ehh,, not really.

I plan on dropping the front a little anyway. The rear is down 1 inch, and I like a little rake but Right now the front sits up just a tad.

And Im cheap.

That's a lot of tire I still have e 14's and with 225/60's, I rub. If I drop to a 215 though, it won't. Its not a big difference in the look of the tire. So when/if mine ever wear out, I will go to the smaller ones. Just a thought. I know, it's a bich in tight parking lots.
