Default ADVICE ON PRIMER?

The car (65 vert) is stripped and going off to the blasters next month. I'm doing all of the metalwork myself in the garage and wanted input on which primer would be the best keep it from flash rusting. I've been reading PPG's website and most of their primers reccommend sanding before recoat after flash time has expired and also some are not recommended for use after media blasting. If I can aviod having to sand all of the nooks and crannies I'd like to go that way, if not I'll just suck it up and do it. I'm assuming that I'll be needing a self etching primer, but I'm not 100% sure on this one either. Also does anyone have any recommendations on which ones prevent rust the best? I've been reading good and bad things about Picklex20. Their claims seem a bit "optomistic" to say the least, but I would appreciate any input from those in the know. Thanks in advance.[sm=smiley16.gif]

i like to use PPG epoxy primers, they are water proof, unlike etch primers and 2k sandable primers. the epoxy hands down will be the best, you will have to check the tech sheet but during certain windows you cna apply filler directly over epoxy with out sanding then after your filler work i would reapply epoxy(keep the filler from bleeding into the paint) then sandable 2k primer

It's okay to use on the bare metal then? Last time I painted it I used PPG sanding primer on top of some old paint, filler and some bare metal, sanded the snot out of it, then used a sealer before the color coats, stripes, and then clear, but I did it all at once. This time I intend to get the metal work PERFECT before painting so hopefully I won't be getting nasty little rust bubbles for a good long time (as I am now). The point of question for me is what will keep it rust free for the period of time while I weld in new panels and de-cancer it? I'd rather not have to pony up the dough to get it blasted again in 6 months (or however long it takes) when I go to paint it. I definitely want to stick with the same manufacturer for the whole paint system too. Maybe I should call my local PPG guy and just see what they say? Paint is just $$$$$ and I really don't want to screw it up.

yes you want the epoxy it called DP40 DP50 etc depending on the color its waterproof(as long as the UV rays dont break it down but i doubt you gonna be leaving it outside for extended periods) and is used directly over bare metal

make sure when you strip the panels not to touch them with your hands(the acid will start rust) wear gloves and also make sure to wipe down the surface with a good silicone wax and grease remover!!
