Vin Numbers/Vin tag
I have a 66 convertible-The vin is stamped on the left side top inner fender apron as usual.Over top that is a deckled VIN tag screwed down in place.I m sure this doesnt belong there...where is the correct place for this VIN tag?

Scott,
The piece you're referring to is called the "body buck tag". It was used at the factory as the car rolled down the line to help the Ford workers assemble the car with the correct options. It was never intended to be a permanent part of the finished car. Some factories used the buck tag system, some didn't. Some left the tags on after the car was finished, some didn't. The buck tag was loosely installed onto the fender apron (or radiator support... or cowl area). If it's located in an odd position, that's probably where it was originally installed (loosely attached with an odd looking screw). Rarely would an owner take the time to relocate the body buck tag, so my guess is that it's in the position where it was originally installed.
