Default Tires

I was wanting to know if these tires are safe to run on my 16x7s. I know my fronts are, but I am unsure about the rears. The rears are 245/50R16. While my fronts are 205/60R16.

seeing as i sowed that doubt in your mind, i thouight i better start digging. my tire guy said no...get a minimum 8" rim. It wasnt as easy to find a straight answer on the net but here's a couple of refs. the first one is worth reading from the start for overall tire info. the rim width calc is about 1/3 the way down page 2.

I tried it for your tyres and the calc (with his disclaimer to check at a reputable tire shop) says you can put a 245 on a 7" rim. I would have thought its way too wide a tire. It will give you a lot of bulge and make the tyre appear narrower.

me...I wouldnt do it. I think it will handle like crap on the rear. Just to give yourself a better visual, try measure 7" ona ruler against a pinch under 10" which is your tyre width.

the game has changed a bit with larger rims and lower profile tires too. good luck hope this is some use to you

i agree you should run a wider wheel. I run 235's on a 17x8 and wouldn't go narrower

those 245s would be 9.65" ... on a 7" wheel.

Yeah they bulge out. I can't find any 235/50R16s. Only 245s and 225s. I don't want to go down to 225s though.

EDIT: How big of a difference in width is 225 from 205? I don't want to have the same size tires all around. I want smaller in the front like right now.

225's will be noticeably bigger than the 205's on the same rim, but if you really want that drag look, you'd need a bigger rear rim to take advantage of the 245s

alternately look for a 235 in a different aspect ratio. Goodyear make a 235/55/16 - Eagle GT/HR. I am sure there will be others.

Well I might have found some. I am looking at Sumitomo HTR Z II in 235/60R16. They are just alittle bit more expensive than the others, but will work.
