How can one tell if the fender picked off a scrap car is an original Ford fender off the line? A guy is selling me the right-side fender for a 66 and he's saying that it's original.

 

Look on the inner structural webbing of the fender for a date code stamping.

I saw a number. It was 4 digits, letters and numbers.
I can't remember what the numbers were, though, and the parts are at home.

Don't know if this will help you but my 65 is stamped in the two places circled and I'm about 100 percent certain it is an original fender.

feel how heavy it is? i have yet to hold a repo that is the same weight as a original, and like stated above there is a stamping in two places,..mine had those also and mine were from a 66

 

Mine has the numbers stenciled in two places, though they're different from the ones in the picture. I forget where the second one is, but the one I read was on the upper edge where it bolts onto the chassis, under the hood.

I'm also not familiar with 'weights'. I'm learning as I go.
But, my mechanic friend who was with me said it was 'heavy duty' and said it felt like it would be original.
