Starfury...
I had not heard anything about the law changing in CA. I am always paranoid about someone stealing my old black CA plates. I have unusual bolts and fasteners on my plates to discourage the simple minded thief but if someone puts their mind to it, they would be easy to steal. It is good to know that IF that ever happens, there may be a way to get black plates back on there.
Black CA plates are already pretty expensive on ebay, especially if you have a pair. I guess the price will be going up a lot more soon. Maybe i should stock up on pairs of old CA black plates.
Might be a good investment. haha

Most every state I've lived in doesn't give aflying **** what your car's original plates were as long as you have a current registration, but I've never really worried aout it. I think I actualy have my 65's original plates tho. It's a California car. I have the original registration I guess I'll have to actually look and see if they match. LOL Never thought to look.

The law in CA is going to change in....November, I think. At that point you'll have to have a pair of matching plates, but they don't have to be matched to the car.
I hope it does i Do live in california and i have both matching plates. i hope it does......

Anyone knows another way to register it back with the old ones??maybe.....anyone????
If I were you I would try again with a different clerk and/or a different DMVoffice...

It can at times be strange how differently "hard and fast" rules canbeenforced depending on who is interpreting them!

I would trythis a couple of times before trying more drastic measures...

that is ridiculous any one should be able to put on their old license plates if they have them but i will try what you say
i will go to the same DMV try it with different clerks then if it does not work try at another city with different clerks as well, and if it still does not work well i dont know wht the f#*(k im gonna do. i went crazy to find amustang with its original black and gold and if i dont get them i will be very dissapointed..........[&o]

I live in Illinois and my dad gave me a set of 1967 plates he found at some garage sell. So if I register it as an AV I can run those plates? Of course I am going to a car show officer everwhere I go someone looks at my car!
