Default Power steering?

i am putting the 66 back together. the steering pump was disconnected. should i find the problem and keep it? Or, should i convert it over to manual.

my brother is an old school mustang guy and he says to go manual.

rebuild the steering box if it feels like it has play in it or get the Flaming river gear box. Lots of people have bad things to say about FRs rack and pinion steering setup but their Steering box is pretty good im happy with mine.

other than that all you need is a conversion for the drag link it cost like 40 bucks I think.

So yah go manual Im really happy i did

so if i go manual, how hard will it be to steer? will my wife be able to drive it easily? not that she will spend much time behind the wheel.

well
i have manual steering. and its okay. if shes ever driven a car with manual steering shell know what to expect.

i dont know your wife, but most women would not look foward to driving it. if i were you i would try to get the power steering back together if your wife is going to drive it. or if your driving it daily.

at normal operating speeds its more than okay its rather comfortable.

but in parkinglots its killer and three poitn turns are more like five point turns

Manual steering isn't easy when the car isn't moving. Once you get moving it is almost like power steering.

also depends on the car.

a 65-66 hardtop 6 cyl is not bad at all especially with stock 4-5 inch tires.

but a 70 mach 1 with a 428 and 17 inch rims is going to be killer.
